HS2 in the House of Lords
- Extract from House of Lords Economics Affairs Committee Report, 25 March 2015:-
“The construction of HS2 … will be one of the most expensive infrastructure projects ever undertaken in the UK. The Government has yet to make a convincing case for proceeding with the project … It is not at all clear that HS2 represents the best most cost-effective solution to the problems it is intended to solve.”

- The Government has blocked nearly half the petitioners to the House of Lords Select Committee on HS2, preventing individuals and action groups from making their cases.
- The Select Committee’s brief is very narrow, so the bill is not receiving the full scrutiny normally expected from the House of Lords as a revising chamber.
